Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for individuals or groups
DBT Therapy
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
DBT helps individuals identify problematic behaviors and ineffective thought patterns. An array of DBT techniques are used to help clients discover problematic or ineffective patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors. DBT uses both individual sessions between the client and therapist as well as DBT group therapy sessions. Both aspects are equally important.
The evidence-based skills taught are grouped in the following models:
Mindfulness
Distress Tolerance
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Emotion Regulation
Telephone Skills Coaching: Phone coaching is provided between sessions to help with applying DBT skills. In other words, the therapist provides guidance by replacing ineffective behaviors to effective coping.
Multi-Family DBT Skills Group (Online)
Multi-Family DBT Groups are designed for the youth and their parents/caregivers to come together and learn the same set of skills. This enables a common language to help support the youth in skills application. Having other families in the group allows for built-in support for youth and parents/caregivers alike.
The group is different from group therapy in that DBT skills group is like a classroom set-up with interactive teaching and learning. Group members are also coached on ways to share within the group without being detailed about behaviors that may be triggering to others.
The skills taught in group help with managing emotional dysregulation, impulsive behaviors, self-injurious behaviors and relationship difficulties.

DBT Consultation Team
In order to adhere to the DBT model, the therapist meets and consults with other DBT trained therapists weekly to discuss approaches, techniques, treatment recommendations, and to ensure DBT protocols are being followed as intended.
